SNAP Week 1 Day 2

We are down to $11.45 left for the week......
I am originally from Chicago and have been here in Indy for almost 7 years now.  Frank does most of the food shopping for us.  So, I did not notice until yesterday that there is no tax on food.  Frank thought it was very odd that I did not know that (what he actually said was, “You better not post that.  It doesn’t make you sound very smart”).   Well, after he did a bit of research-because he could not believe his amazingly smart wife did not know that- he found, each state decides individually whether or not to tax food.  Illinois does have a food tax!!  So who is not so smart now?  We both learned something!
See chart from 2009-

Today we had our usual breakfast-egg tortilla wrap, coffee and half an orange.  Chef Frank will vary what he adds with the egg wrapped in the tortilla.  Yesterday it was cream cheese; today it was cheddar cheese, tomato and avocado.  Other times we have the egg on a slice of toast, or on top of potatoes......always coffee!

Lunch-Left over chicken cacciatore and mashed potatoes.

Dinner-With the stock Chef Frank made from the saved chicken parts yesterday, he put together a delicious rich full flavored Mexican soup called pozole.  He made it with Hominy, small meatballs (any type of protein would be good), sweet peppers, chili peppers and seasonings.  Serving it up with a side salad topped with tomatoes and homemade avocado dressing.  Frank also had a couple slices of bread........that,  of course, he made from scratch.
